What is a soft commodity?+
Softs are grown rather than mined: coffee, cocoa, sugar, cotton and orange juice. They tend to have concentrated growing regions, so weather in one country can matter a great deal.
Why are grain prices quoted in cents per bushel?+
Grain contracts follow exchange convention. A quote of 1,174.25 means 1,174.25 US cents for one bushel, so the price you see on the ticket reflects that unit.
Do commodity markets trade all day?+
No. Agricultural markets follow exchange sessions with a daily break, and they close over the weekend. Session times per instrument are published inside the platform.
What is seasonality?+
Many crops follow an annual cycle of planting, growth and harvest. Supply, and often volatility, cluster around those windows, which is what the seasonal map on this page shows.
