Tokyo00:00 – 09:00 UTC
London08:00 – 17:00 UTC
New York13:00 – 22:00 UTC

The London and New York sessions overlap between roughly 13:00 and 17:00 UTC — the deepest liquidity window of the FX day. Times shown are standard-time approximations; daylight saving shifts London, New York and Sydney by an hour at different points in the year.

How it works

Anatomy of a currency trade.

01

Pick a pair

Every quote has a base and a quote currency. EUR/USD tells you how many US dollars one euro buys.

02

Choose a direction

Buy if you expect the base currency to strengthen against the quote currency, sell if you expect it to weaken.

03

Size and protect it

Set your position size, then attach a stop loss and take profit so the trade has defined limits from the start.

04

Manage the position

Track it live in your dashboard, adjust your levels, and close whenever the market is open.

What to expect

Trading conditions.

Transparent pricing

Bid and ask are shown side by side on every instrument, so you always see the spread before you commit.

One workspace

Charts, watchlists, order tickets and open positions live in a single screen — no switching between tools.

Risk controls

Attach stop loss and take profit levels on supported order types, and size positions before you send them.

24/5 market hours

The FX market runs from the Sydney open on Sunday evening to the New York close on Friday. Session times are published per instrument.

Fast order handling

Orders route through the same execution stack that powers the rest of the Solaris Black platform.

Desktop, tablet, mobile

The same market view, watchlists and positions across every device you sign in from.

Questions

Forex, explained.

Forex trading is the exchange of one currency for another. Prices are quoted in pairs, and you take a position on whether the first currency in the pair will rise or fall against the second.

A pip is the standard smallest price move for most pairs — the fourth decimal place, or the second decimal on yen pairs. It is the unit traders use to talk about spreads and profit or loss.

Majors are the most-traded pairs, all of which include the US dollar. Minors, also called crosses, pair two major currencies without the dollar. Exotics pair a major currency with a smaller or emerging-market currency and usually carry wider spreads.

Continuously from the Sydney open on Sunday evening to the New York close on Friday evening, moving through the Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York sessions.

Interest-rate decisions, inflation and jobs data, trade balances, political events and shifts in market risk appetite all feed into the exchange rate.

Account levels are set during onboarding. You can review the account plans on the pricing page before opening an account.
